British birding sucks

Pah, i've been back a week and a half now and i've only had one lifer (the parakeets at heathrow). Ok, so it is february and i cant be arsed to twitch the few good birds that there are in the country but it's a bit of a comedown after the ticking frenzy of the last 7 months.
I spent the last week on portland which was typically quiet for the time of year. The birding was better on the mainland with a visit to Castle Cove in Weymouth being pretty good with the overwintering Yellow browed warbler and a Firecrest. Portland harbour had up to 3 Great Northern Divers and a Slavonian Grebe along with loads of Red breasted mergansers. A day trip out to Arne was also worthwhile with the expected Dartford Warbler, Avocet and Spoonbill being nice year ticks.
